Pittsburgh Photographer: Mallory, Class of 2014

Friday, August 9th, 2013

Mallory and her mom drove some distance to my studio in Butler for her senior portrait session, only to have an unexpected thunderstorm put a damper on things. After spending an hour or so shooting in the studio, we were fortunate to see the sunshine once again and moved the shoot outdoors. I always encourage my seniors to do a combination of urban and natural settings for their portraits. I love shooting in fields, but Pennsylvania tends to be really, really green in the spring and the summer. Urban settings offer such a great variety in color and texture, which really balances all of of that green.

This is the outfit she showed up in. She was NOT planning on using it for her shoot, but I thought the shorts were super cute !

Pittsburgh Photographer: Kelsey, Model Session

Wednesday, July 31st, 2013

Kelsey was one of my senior portrait clients 4 years ago. I first met her several years ago during a local theater production of Annie (she was Annie!). Her mom is also my son’s dentist so I see her parents at least twice per year. They are a wonderful family and some of the nicest people I know. A few weeks ago, I asked Kelsey if she would like to come model some dresses for me before she heads of to  law school. I haven’t even had a chance to look at most of the images yet, but here are a few that jumped out at me.

At the studio with my garage sale vanity I found this past spring. I am always on the look out for vintage or interesting pieces I can use for portrait sessions.

Pittsburgh Photographer: Taylor at the Studio

Thursday, July 4th, 2013

I met Taylor a few years ago when she was my senior spokesmodel. She had some time over her summer break from college to come to the studio for a shoot. She only had a few days, as she was heading off to NYC for a summer dance intensive. Taylor is also a talented photographer in her own right. Check out her Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/44669293@N05/

Pittsburgh Photographer: Recent Senior Portraits

Wednesday, June 19th, 2013

It’s getting to that time of year again where I am so busy shooting I don’t have time to blog! Here are a few favorites from my recent senior portrait sessions. Hopefully, I can post more images later. Don’t forget to check out my facebook page for the most recent updates.

Brynn plans to study theater after she finishes high school. She was very expressive and was so much fun to work with!

Heather is adorable. She is also super smart. She plans to study genetics. I love learning about my seniors’ plans for the future.

Alyssa

Kennedy is a dancer and photographer. I’ve noticed a lot of seniors who have plans to work in the photography field book with me. I take that as a compliment! She has already shot her first wedding and plans to pursue a business degree in college, so she can run a photography business better. This is very smart thinking and a route I highly recommend.

Don’t be fooled by this serious shot of Allison. She was almost all smiles during our shoot. Allison was referred to me by one of my 2013 seniors. I hope I get a chance to post more pictures from her shoot so you can see her gorgeous red hair!

And finally Kristie, who was one of my seniors from a few years ago. She came over to the studio for a test shoot and it was wonderful to see her again. Kristie is going to be studying hair and makeup this fall and I hope she and I will be able to work together on some projects at the studio.

Pittsburgh Photographer: Julia in Studio

Monday, June 10th, 2013

Julia is one of my wonderful seniors from a few years ago. She came to visit me as the new studio space and we shot a few images to demonstrate some of the features of studio. Many of the seniors I work with are hesitant to have part of their shoot in the studio. They worry that studio shoots= old school or boring. But take time to look through any top fashion magazine and you will see many, many images shot in studios. I am fortunate that my studio has both a large natural light shooting area with interesting architecture, as well as an area I can use for studio lighting. Studio can be modern, fun, and fresh! I encourage all of my seniors to shoot at least part of their session at the studio. And if you happen to need a traditional picture for the yearbook or to give to your grandparents, we can accomplish that as well.

New Grad Cards for Girls!

Friday, April 5th, 2013

After yesterday’s post about new graduation cards just for the guys, I decided to add a few more girl designs as well. Cards can be used as an announcement or invitation or both! There is plenty of room for more text or pictures on the back of the card. Most of my clients used the front of the card to display their favorite picture and the back to give detailed information about their graduation party and future plans. Last year, one client had her mom snap a picture of her in front of the college she would be attending, and we included that on the back of the card. Cards are fully customizable! Current Clients: Designs can be found by logging into your online proof gallery and clicking on the “design boutique” button at the bottom of the price list.

It seems like winter is lasting forever here in Western PA. Sarah braved the cold for a snowy day shoot. Love how these turned out!

Zach, Senior Spokesmodel, Mars High School, Class of 2013

Tuesday, July 17th, 2012

I was super excited when  Zach’s mom told me he was interested in having an urban senior portrait session. Urban locations offer so much in terms of color and texture and variety. I think a lot of people get nervous when I encourage them to have an urban senior portrait session because they can’t visualize exactly what that means. I hope these images are helpful to anyone considering having an urban session. Just a reminder: if you book either my Essential or Complete Senior Portrait Package you can use more than one location. So you could have part of your shoot in an urban setting, and part of your shoot in a rural location.
